An artisan wine shop and bar with space for just a dozen customers at a time is set to open in Chester.
Covino, which measures 300 sq ft, is being launched by local wine merchant Christopher Laidler who has supplied several of Chester's most high-profile eateries including Sticky Walnut, the Chef's Table, Joseph Benjamin and Ginger.
The venue will sell wine at the bar, to take away or for home delivery. It will also offer a selection of small-batch spirits, craft beers and coffees, as well as regular themed tastings and events.
Laidler said: "The inspiration for Covino came from visits to some of the best small producers throughout Europe, each showcasing unusual grape varieties and wine from lesser known regions.
"Covino will be my interpretation of an enoteca – a small wine shop and bar format that is popular on the continent – offering great value handcrafted wines in a relaxed intimate atmosphere, alongside a selection of artisan cheeses and charcuterie.
"I always encourage people to try something new and step out of their comfort zone. Covino will offer a mixture of unusual grape varieties from around the world as well as classics with a twist, so there will definitely be something to suit everyone."
Work on the development at 10 Rufus Court is nearly complete, with Covino due to open its doors on 9 December 2016.
