Proposals to create a watersports and outdoor activity centre for wakeboarders, kayakers and swimmers near Alderley Edge have surprisingly been approved after councillors overturned the planning officer's advice to refuse the scheme on aircraft safety and biodiversity grounds.
A full planning application by Cheshire Lakes CIC to build a new leisure destination on a 53.4-acre site, which comprises two lakes at the former Mere Farm Quarry in Nether Alderley, was approved by Cheshire East Council's strategic planning board on Wednesday (24 August 2016).
The applicant wants to convert the northern lake into a wakeboarding park and aerial ropes course, while the southern lake would be used for kayaking and swimming. The planned scheme also involves building a reception, changing facilities, a small retail area, outdoor seating, a car park and other facilities.
