The company was recently named as the ninth largest manufacturer by turnover in Wales, as revealed in the latest edition of the Wales Business Insider.

According to accounts for Nice-Pak International Ltd, its turnover was £222.4m for the year ending 31 December 2014, up from £210.6m in 2013.

The company's directors put the sales growth down to new business secured during the year.

Pre-tax profits also increased to £8.4m, from £6.7m, in the same period of the previous year.

The company's UK sales fell slightly to £112.9m from £115.6m; however, European sales grew to £65.4m from £63.6m.

African sales also provided a boost, growing to £5.3m from £487,354 while its North American revenues increased to £27.1m from £19.4m.

During the year the average number of staff employed monthly by the company rose to 931 from 874.

In their report accompanying the results, the directors said: "The group's customers are mainly large retailers and brand owners who are continuously reviewing strategy and price structures. The wet wipe market is also very competitive with selling prices constantly coming under pressure.

"The future prospects of the group remain healthy with increases in turnover expected for the forthcoming year."

Following accounting period, the company secured planning consent with Liberty Properties for a 400,000 sq ft manufacturing unit in Wigan, which could create 100 jobs, on the Westwood Power Station site.

It plans to relocate 150 staff from its facility in Hindley Green, with practical completion of construction targeted for the spring of 2016.

Tritax Big Box Real Estate Investment Trust announced it has exchanged and completed contracts to provide forward funding for the development in May 2015.

Nice-Pak International can trace its roots back more than 50 years when its US parent company was formed in New York. It opened its first European facility in Flint in 1992.

The business supplies large retailers with baby wipes, cosmetic wipes and wet wipes and manufactures more than 450 million packs per year.
