Omega park deal agreed with Land Trust

Date added: 07/06/2017

Fifty acres in the centre of the Omega development in Warrington have been handed over to the Land Trust, a national land management charity, to be remodelled as a park in the coming years.

The site to the south of the M62 will initially continue to be used by the developers but over the next three years will be remodelled to create a new park, providing green space to local residents and workers.

Omega is a joint venture between Miller Developments and KUC Properties, in partnership with landowner the Homes & Communities Agency. The HCA also provided endowment funding to be invested by the Land Trust to pay for the management of the park in perpetuity.

The Land Trust has also taken on new sites at Ketley in Telford; Waverley, South Yorkshire in agreement with Harworth and Drummond Estates; and New Lubbesthorpe, Leicestershire.

Euan Hall, chief executive of the Land Trust, said: "These transfers contribute enormously to the provision of sustainably managed green space around communities across the UK.”

He added: "As a charity the Land Trust is more than just a contractor who comes in and cuts the grass. We help landowners develop sustainable funding solutions for greenspace and work with local people to deliver the long-term management of sites, helping to unlock the site’s vast potential for the benefit of the community; enhancing health and wellbeing; environment and biodiversity and economic and social value.”
