UK Trade and
Investment are working in partnership with Cheshire West and Chester Council
and investment teams in Liverpool and Manchester to promote the North West
Financial Centre of Excellence.
More and more financial institutions are moving some of
their functions out of London to locations that are more cost-effective. To support and promote this "near-shoring”,
UKTI have identified areas with clusters of businesses and expertise in banking
and financial services and are promoting them to investors as Financial Centres
of Excellence.
The North West Financial Centre of Excellence will launch on 19th
February in Manchester. Hosted by BNY
Mellon, the event will be attended by James Wharton, MP, minister with
responsibility for the Northern Powerhouse.
The North West project will be introduced by David Kane from UKTI and Dan
Torjussen-Proctor, Commercial Director of The City UK, will also be
speaking.
We are extremely proud of the contribution Chester makes to
this initiative. Companies such as MBNA,
Bank of America, M&S Bank and Lloyds Bank have been established employers
in the city for many years and contribute a great deal to the region’s
economy. Chester’s history of banking
and financial services has continued to develop and grow with newer businesses
like GBG, Virgin Money, Card One Banking and Tuxedo Money Solutions. The residents of our borough provide a pool
of labour with skills and experience not only for Chester, but Liverpool and
Manchester too.
Further regional Centres of Excellence will be launched and
a major event is planned in London later this year.
