Date added: 16/12/2015

Hazardous waste management business Kurion has acquired a robotics and remote systems company based in the South East.

Kurion, whose European headquarters is in Warrington, has bought Oxford Technologies for an undisclosed sum.

Oxford Technologies was founded in 2000 and specialises in remote handling systems used at nuclear decommissioning sites worldwide. Clients include the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.

The deal will add more than 60 staff to Kurion's robotic systems and services team. The company said the acquisition would also provide it with "complementary capabilities".

In the UK, Kurion is based at Birchwood’s Cinnamon Park.

Steve Park, managing director of Warrington & Co, the borough's economic growth partnership, said: "Warrington is now a real powerhouse for nuclear business and it is fantastic that a company with such a respected international reputation such as Kurion Inc is part of Warrington's buoyant nuclear industry."
