Hermes Parcelnet has completed the acquisition of three acres of land next to its 150,000 sq ft facility at Omega North in Warrington, allowing it to increase its parcel handling capability to 1m parcels each day.
It was first reported in January that Hermes was in talks to expand its depot on Lockheed Road into one of the last vacant sites at Omega North.
The site will be used to increase the number of heavy goods vehicles able to service the facility, as well as allowing Hermes to add a £7m conveyor system to its depot and create an additional 200 jobs.
Williams Tarr has been appointed as the contractor to carry out the works.
Aherne Property Consultants, together with Lambert Smith Hampton, acquired the site on behalf of Hermes. Aherne subsequently secured an immediate sale and leaseback of the land with Hermes Parcelnet’s existing landlord LaSalle Investment Managers, agreeing an 18-year lease.
Bilfinger GVA and JLL are the joint letting agents at Omega.
Andrew Aherne, director of Aherne Property Consultants, said: "This was an excellent deal for all parties involved and I am pleased that we were able to secure a positive outcome for our client.”
Adam Leach, estates manager of Hermes, said: "This was an important asset for Hermes to acquire in order to enable growth plans at our adjoining facility – the space here will facilitate our continued growth and improve operational efficiency from this strategically important distribution hub.”
