A grade I-listed Elizabethan country house in Cheshire, which sits within mature gardens and pastureland spanning more than 100 acres, could soon be converted into a hotel.
Peter Heywood has submitted a full planning application to change the use of Brereton Hall near the village of Holmes Chapel from a private home into a hotel. The proposals also involve constructing new access arrangements.
Brereton Hall, which was built as a family home by Sir William Brereton in around 1585, was used as a girl's boarding school in the 20th century until 1993 when it reverted back to being a private residence. Approval was granted to use the site for functions, luncheons, afternoon teas, and dinners in 1997.
The country house, which spans four floors, features 12 bedrooms, a kitchen, a games room, a drawing room, a dining room, offices and a reception hall. It is currently accessed through a narrow but historic archway and gatehouse.
