Conviviality splashes out £200m on major drinks retailer

CREWE-based Conviviality Retail has acquired drinks retailer Matthew Clark, which has Hertford Cellars and Punch Taverns in its portfolio. Conviviality, which owns the Bargain Booze chain, has not specified how much it has paid, but it is believed to be in the region of £200m with Matthew Clark turning over £800m – twice the size of the Cheshire company. The undertaking also contains break fee provision of £1m if agreements to effect the acquisition are not signed within certain agreed parameters by September ...
