Warrington Council has appointed I&H Brown for the multi-storey car park that forms an early phase of the £107m Time Square regeneration scheme being delivered with Muse Developments.
Warrington-based I&H Brown is due to deliver the 1,150-space eight-storey car park by October 2017.
Steve Park, managing director of Warrington & Co, said: "The construction of the multi-storey car park is an important part of the Time Square regeneration scheme as it will provide a new and attractive asset that will underpin and support the whole scheme.”
Nigel Taylor, I&H Brown managing director for England and Wales, said: "We are pleased to be associated with this prestigious project in our home town of Warrington. We are Warrington based employing localised supply chain and employees retaining the public pound within the Warrington realm.
"We relish the journey to deliver this project for Warrington and Co. and are delighted to be the first to make a start for the Time Square regeneration scheme.”
David Burkinshaw, development director at Muse Developments, said: "It’s great to see the project advancing on a number of fronts. The award of this contract will lead to the delivery of another important part of the Scheme. This new multi-storey will provide visitors to the town centre and Time Square with secure and convenient parking facilities.”
The first element of the Time Square regeneration scheme, temporary market building, was started earlier this year by local contractor CPUK. The market will move into this temporary location in 2017 whilst the new, permanent 31, 150 sq ft covered market hall is constructed.
Cllr Terry O’Neill, leader of Warrington Council, said: "The construction of the new, multi-storey car parking facility will assist in supporting not only the Time Square Regeneration Scheme but also the whole town centre. The delivery of this important facility demonstrates Warrington Council’s commitment to continue to provide a high standard of town centre amenities.”
When it opens in 2019, the full development will comprise a 13-screen, 2,500-seat, Cineworld cinema, a 42,000 sq ft market hall, family restaurants, the multi-storey car park, new council offices, shops and a public square.
