A Nantwich college has been given the green light to develop a food enterprise zone (FEZ) with the potential for incubator space for small-to-medium food and farming-related businesses.
Cheshire East Council has approved a development order process to enable Reaseheath College to proceed with its plans.
The local development order lasts for 15 years, allowing the college to carry out further significant projects without the need to follow traditional planning processes.
Reaseheath principal Meredydd David said: "The food and agriculture sector is the UK’s largest manufacturing industry and generates over £100bn for the economy each year.
"The FEZ will enable Reaseheath to respond to the needs of the rural and agricultural industries and to support them in embracing new technologies and innovative systems. It will help businesses to penetrate new markets and to enhance profitability."
In Cheshire East, the rural economy represents 32 per cent of the borough’s £3.6bn economy and provides work for more than 65,000 people.
