A total of £20m is set to be allocated to establish an Advanced Manufacturing & Research Institute in North Wales.
Economy secretary Ken Skates unveiled funding from the Welsh Government for the scheme.
The institute is expected to have a strong focus on advanced manufacturing sectors including aerospace, automotive, nuclear and food. It is aimed at targeting collaborative research an development, advanced manufacturing techniques and production processes, training needs and skills across industry.
It will support the initial £10m investment from project partners to develop the institute that has been developed by the Deeside Enterprise Zone Advisory Board, AMRC Sheffield, Swansea University, and Coleg Cambria in conjunction with small- to medium-enterprises and large companies.
The institute will operate as a single entity, split between a proposed 48,438 sq ft hub facility in Broughton and a 10,764 sq ft to 16,146 sq ft networking, training, business development and advice facility, located in close proximity to the Deeside Industrial Park.
Airbus will be the first anchor tenant for the new centre. Working with AMRC Sheffield, its work involves the research and development (R&D) test phase for new wing technology, called "Wing of the Future" which includes the prototype and delivery of design, engineering and a wing demonstrator at Broughton.
